Newly created position is endowed by The Rechler Family

October 1, 2020  – MorseLife Hospice and Palliative Care has promoted Pamela McCorry, M.A., M.DIV, to the newly created Chaplain Chair. She joined the not-for-profit in May 2019 as spiritual care coordinator and clinical pastoral counselor.

As Chair, McCorry will provide counseling to patients and families through active listening, presence and education to reduce fears, caregiver breakdown, anxiety and spiritual distress. When requested by the bereaved, she will officiate memorial services.

Prior to joining MorseLife Hospice and Palliative Care, McCorry served as a social worker for Darcy Hall Skilled Nursing Facility in West Palm Beach. A resident of Rivera Beach, McCorry received her undergraduate degree in psychology from City University of New York, a master of arts in psychiatry and religion from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and a master’s in pastoral counseling from Drew University in New Jersey. She held a clinical pastoral education residency at Stamford Medical Center in Connecticut and holds certifications for effective counseling for veterans and as a spiritual guidance counselor.

The newly created position is endowed by The Rechler Family that released a statement in response to McCorry’s appointment. “The family of Beverley Rechler is excited and pleased with the appointment of Pamela McCrory as the first chaplain named under our family’s endowment of the Morse Life Hospice Chaplaincy Program. Pamela provided our mother with an abundance of compassion, comfort, intellectual discussion and stimulation during the period she was in hospice care. These visits both calmed and uplifted her, and we will forever be grateful. This care was especially important at a time of increased isolation due to the COVID pandemic. We know that mom looked forward to Pamela’s visits with great anticipation and are pleased that Pamela will be able to continue her good and important work in the future with other hospice patients, something we know mom would have wanted."

Designated by the Florida Legislature as the only Teaching Hospice in the state, MorseLife Hospice and Palliative Care treats the progression of terminal illness with the same high standards as all other MorseLife care services to its community. The mission of MorseLife Hospice and Palliative Care is to provide outstanding, dignified care for terminally ill patients by minimizing their suffering, enhancing their comfort, and supporting families while upholding Hospice’s life-celebrating values.
