Rona Bartelstone Care Management & Home Healthcare has announced the availability of its new Hurricane Preparedness Planning Service to help seniors and others who are vulnerable during hurricane season. The purpose of the service is to help people better prepare for their needs during and after a storm. The planning process will reflect the successful planning that Rona Bartelstones Care Managers have been doing for years with our regular clients.
Last year after Wilma, we had only two clients in vulnerable situations after the storm and both were resolved within 24 hours. This is a seasonal service that we began offering in April of this year. We have begun to sign up clients so that we can prepare early and have all the information and resources that might be needed to secure someones situation after the storm passes. This will be a package of hurricane emergency preparedness planning for anyone who needs assistance in making arrangements for themselves or their loved ones, whether their plan is to remain at home or to evacuate. Service Package Includes:- A needs assessment and the development of an Emergency Plan;
- The plan might involve supplies for remaining at home or helping them to sign up for a special needs shelter, hotel, hospital care or travel out of town;
- All arrangements will be made with the individual(s) and communicated to their family or other out of state emergency contact;
- For people who need help in accessing emergency supplies we will coordinate these purchases;
- During a hurricane watch we will be in contact with all of those who have signed up with us to assure that their emergency plan is properly implemented. We will inform their emergency contact that they are prepared for the storm;
- After the storm passes, all clients will be called or visited as soon as possible to assure their safety and well being. We will also attempt to reach family members and take steps to address any needs that have arisen during and after the storm.
We are encouraging people to sign up early so that we have the time to make all the necessary arrangements to provide as much safety and security as is possible, given the nature of the storms.
Since we are being told by the National Hurricane Center that we have entered a cycle during which we can expect to have many more storms each season and that some of the storms are likely to be severe, we have the experience to help people through the season in a manner that will not leave them stranded, as was the case for so many people last year.
