It has been approximately six months since I assumed the position as founding dean of Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) College of Allopathic Medicine (M.D. college). The vision for the new college remains to establish a world-class medical school with a strong focus on excellence in patient care, research and education.
With HCA East Florida’s commitment to build a new teaching hospital on the NSU campus, we are in the unique position of contributing to an integrated health system that provides the highest quality health care to our community, and opens the doors for cutting edge research and education.
We have begun to work with leadership from the City of Fort Lauderdale to develop a better understanding about the health needs of the people and patients in the South Florida region. Specifically, we seek to develop a comprehensive city health development plan that lays out the strategies for addressing the health objectives of our community, while developing the new college.
My colleagues in NSU’s Health Professions Division are already involved in assisting our communities, working with our health care partners on patient education and other initiatives. I invite and encourage you, our leaders in health care, to join me, NSU and our other partners to learn specifically what are the major health care issues facing our community and develop a strong and measurable program to help solve these issues.
By working together, we will reach our goal to improving the health of our community and the patients we serve.
