The Healthcare Retention and Recruitment Office (HRRO) is a special programs office of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) that develops innovative programs to enhance recruitment and retention of highly qualified health care professionals. This includes administering educational assistance programs such as the Employee Incentive Scholarship Program (EISP) and the National Nursing Education Initiative (NNEI). EISP provides funding for VA employees to obtain entry nursing degrees including LPN, associate degree, baccalaureate degrees and advanced degrees and to employees pursuing degrees or training in certain health care disciplines where recruitment and retention of qualified personnel is difficult. EISP is also used to fund and administer the VANEEP program (VA Nursing Education for Employees Program). VANEEP provides salary replacement dollars and funds to cover the cost of tuition, books, and certain fees for employees enrolled in nursing education programs and is limited to employees enrolled in Licensed Practical (or Vocational) Nurse (LPN/LVN) programs and Registered Nurse (RN) programs on a full-time basis. NNEI provides funding for VA nurses to obtain bachelor degrees and advanced degrees in nursing.
