Oakwood Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. is proud to announce that Kimberly Joyce, family therapist in the Family Solutions Program at Oakwood Center, is the recipient of the 2008 Children’s Services Council (CSC) Extra Mile Award. The Extra Mile Award is typically given to individuals who go beyond the call of duty to provide underserved children and families with outstanding services. The 2008 award recipients were selected by an impartial student leadership group at Boynton Beach High School.

Joyce has not only gone the “Extra Mile”, but so much more. She has dedicated her adult years to improving family life through therapy and advocacy. In 2006, she completed training to become a certified family life educator (CFLE), in addition to becoming a certified parent educator with the Parenting Center at CSC. As part of her CFLE application, Joyce compiled a manual of parenting topics to assist family life educators in preparing effective presentations for community and client meetings, as well as therapy sessions. The Parenting Center at CSC was so impressed with this manual they asked Joyce for permission to use it in their resource center. The one-of-a-kind manual was renamed the Parent Center Workshop Resource Manual and is now used as an effective supplemental tool by all Palm Beach County certified family life educators for the enrichment of family life education classes.
