PBC Medical Society Services Names Award After Bruce Rendina

The Palm Beach County Medical Society Services recently announced the inception of the annual Bruce Rendina Professional Hero Award to commemorate the life and legacy of Rendina, one of the country’s most accomplished real estate developers and philanthropists. He passed away in December 2006. Sandra Chamblee, the executive director of the Glades Health Initiative, was recognized as its first recipient during the organization’s 2007 Heroes in Medicine Awards luncheon.

Chamblee has dedicated her personal and professional life to the fight against HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in rural communities, initiating and leading studies to examine ways to alleviate the stigma associated with each disease. With a special focus on the rural city of Glades in western Palm Beach County, she has served on the board of directors of numerous organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Glades Planned Approach to Community Health, the Comprehensive AIDS Program, Visiting Nurses Association and Glades General Hospital.
