The ability to effect change from a leadership position has been a motivator for Dr. Paul Sojo throughout his medical career. Currently the facility medical director at Memorial Hospital Pembroke, Dr. Sojo is focused on improving processes involved with patient care while also creating an environment where hospital staff can function at their best.
“True change can be made across the hospital as an administrative leader,” said Dr. Sojo, who oversees 20 hospitalists and participates in meetings across disciplines. “The vision moving forward comes from seeing things through the eyes of different professionals and being the one that synthesizes everyone’s standard of care.”
Dr. Sojo says the hospitalist’s role is similar to that of the captain of a ship. “While we consult with other physicians, imaging and other departments, it’s ultimately our decisions that determine the direction of care.”
