Eula Fahie-Romero has been a nurse for four decades, much of that as a wound specialist. It’s the type of hands-on care she envisioned when she chose to make nursing her career.
“I’ve always had the desire to help and heal, and have never regretted my decision,” said Fahie-Romero, who joined Memorial Hospital West’s staff in 2004. “Wound care allows me to work with people in their own space, provide hope despite the circumstances and focus on continuity of care.”
Fahie-Romero is also passionate about her work with ostomy patients, helping them adjust by matching equipment to their body contour and fostering independence after discharge home. It’s a role that involves not only teaching about continence and how leakage affects the skin but also supporting those who often feel stigmatized. “It’s important they understand their life isn’t over and there are others effectively functioning with the same issues they are facing,” she said.
