The American Heart Association’s® Woman of Impact™ & Teen of Impact™ nominees raise awareness and support heart health with local fundraisers and community projects
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. February 27, 2024— Five community leaders and two teens in Palm Beach County are joining the American Heart Association to fight the No. 1 health threat for adults in the United States – heart disease. Heart disease remains the cause of death for 1 in 3 women. Through the Woman and Teen of Impact initiatives, these individuals are supporting the American Heart Association’s mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
Efforts driven by these nominees will be key as the American Heart Association celebrates its Centennial and enters its second century of saving lives and advancing health and hope for everyone. Nominees will raise funds and awareness to support the Go Red for Women® movement for improved women’s health and well-being.
“Cardiovascular disease is the top cause of death in the U.S., taking more lives each year than every type of cancer combined. It’s crucial for everyone, regardless of age, to prioritize their heart health and inspire others to do the same,” said Stacey Comerford, executive director at the American Heart Association Palm Beach County. “We want to empower individuals to learn more about their health and ensure everyone in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast knows how to safeguard their hearts for a better future.”
The Woman of Impact and Teen of Impact initiatives launched in hundreds of cities across the country on National Wear Red Day, February 2. During their nine-week journey, nominees will work to transform heart health in their communities through education and fundraising. Weekly activities range from CPR training events to engaging family and friends to participate in heart health research.
Palm Beach County’s 2024 Woman of Impact nominees are:
- Dr. Abeer Aziz-Siddiqui, HCA Florida
- Kimberly Lea, Palm Beach State College
- Angel O’Neal, HCA Florida Primary Care
- Desiree Reavis, Omni
- Dr. Deeawn Roundtree, Roundtree Training & Consulting
Palm Beach County’s 2024 Teen of Impact nominees are:
- Ella McDermott, North Palm Beach
- Katherine Yang, West Palm Beach
On April 18, at the Palm Beach County Go Red for Women Luncheon, one nominee from each campaign will be named the local 2024 Woman of Impact Winner and 2024 Teen of Impact Winner. In addition to local winners, the top nominee from each campaign across the country will be named the national winner. In 2023, the first National Woman of Impact, Iliana Rentz, came from Palm Beach County.
