South Miami Hospitals Public Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Center has won an international Stevie Award for Women in Business in the Best New Service of the Year category. Denise Woods, R.N., vice president of the hospitals Center for Women & Infants, received the honor.
Woods, whose nursing career spans 30 years, was recognized for her leadership in the establishment of the Center. She joined South Miami Hospital in 1992 as director of surgical services, then became director of nursing. In 2001 Woods was named assistant vice president of nursing, and in 2007 she helped develop the Center for Women & Infants, which includes services for maternity and neonatal care, diagnostic imaging, a center of excellence in bariatric surgery, a Center for Robotic Surgery and the cord blood center.
