The Heart Center at Indian River Medical Center recently donated 10 automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The Indian River County Sheriffs Office and Vero Beach Police Department each received five AEDs. The 10 AEDs, valued at $14,500, were installed in patrol cars to be used in the possible event of a person suffering from a potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmia or cardiac arrest. Sheriff’s officers and City police are at times able to respond to these types of emergencies and be the “first responders,” even before Fire Rescue arrives on the scene.
