The Michael and Dianne Bienes Cancer Center at Holy Cross Hospital has created a multi-disciplinary gastrointestinal clinic in which patients can get the treatments they need under one roof and in one cohesive plan that can often progress from diagnosis to treatment in a matter of two to three weeks.
The clinic will be staffed by physicians and health providers in all disciplines including gastrointestinal, colorectal surgery, medical oncology and radiation oncology. In addition to meeting physicians, patients and their families will have the resources of nutritionists and oncology social workers. Spiritual care is also available for those who desire it.
The day following a patient’s visit to the clinic, the multidisciplinary team meets to discuss a recommended course of treatment including any clinical trials for which the patient may be a candidate. One physician takes the lead with each patient to review the care plan and arrange for treatment.
The clinic also accommodates snowbirds and international visitors since services can be provided in a condensed period of time.
