USF Health has hired two nationally-known trauma surgeons to key leadership positions in the USF College of Medicine.

Dr. John Armstrong will be medical director of the USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation, as well as USF’s director of trauma and disaster education. Dr. Armstrong comes from the University of Florida after directing a top medical training simulation center in the U.S. Army.
 
Dr. Jim Hurst will be the new chief trauma medical director of the USF / HCA Trauma Network. Dr. Hurst will join USF from Harvard Medical School, where he is a visiting professor and won a Faculty Prize for Teaching Excellence in 2007. He also is acting chief of surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Prior to working in Boston, Dr. Hurst also was executive director / CEO of The University Hospital in Cincinnati, and a faculty leader at the University of Cincinnati. From 1991 to 1995, before being recruited to Cincinnati, he was on the faculty at USF.
