April 20, 2020 – Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center opened its new Valor Program in Febraury of 2020, which offers specialized treatment specifically designed for the needs and challenges of First Responders. Treatment by master’s-level clinicians can help first responders build upon the resiliency skills they already use to overcome challenges in their daily job duties.

This 14-bed acute inpatient program utilizes resiliency-focused therapy and trauma-informed care to help firefighters, EMS, police officers, dispatchers, active duty military, crime scene technicians, and corrections officers learn additional skills for coping and healing to overcome challenges in their complicated lines of work.

The Valor Program Services can include Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Pet therapy, Art therapy, and Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM). Advantages of the program include an indoor gym, outdoor courtyard, recreation room, private lockers and computer vestibules, with cellphone access and smoking privileges. Narcotics Anonymous/Alcoholics Anonymous® meetings are held on-site. Our goal is to help first responders return to duty or support the transition to their next stage of life. After completing treatment, patients may transition into our partial hospitalization program, offered Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Our goal is to help first responders return to duty or support the transition to their next stage of life.

“We are very proud to open of our new first responder unit”, said Manny Llano, CEO, Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center. “With the Valor Program, we will have the ability to provide quality therapeutic services in a dedicated unit setting that will bring healing and restore the lives of many individuals and their families. We understand this population requires a special level of treatment; often, they are routinely exposed to unique and tragic circumstances, as seen in our very own backyard on February 14th 2018 with the tragedy at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High school almost 2 years ago. We are honored to have the opportunity to serve the behavioral health needs of this remarkable group of individuals who protect and serve our communities each and every day”.

Right now we are offering “no-cost” initial assessments to our First Responder population right now in lieu of COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently in our OP clinic, we are seeing patients as young as five years old, to 100+ years old via telehealth appointment for:

-Initial Psychiatric evaluations
– Medication Management
– Individual Therapy
– Family Therapy
