December 6, 2021 – Palms West Hospital is proud to announce that Michael Barbera, Vice President of Operations, has been named Executive Development Program Associate of the Year for HCA Healthcare. Barbera was nominated by his peers for his commitment to the program and for modeling attributes desired of an HCA Healthcare Executive.  He received the most peer nominations of anyone in his class.

“I cannot come up with the words to describe how absolutely honored I feel to have been nominated for this award, let alone the opportunity to apply for such an amazing program in the first place,” said Barbera. “I would not have been able to be so involved without the amazing executive team I have the privilege to work with daily at Palms West.”

The Executive Development Program (EDP) prepares leaders for hospital executive roles. The program includes up to 50 participants to expand the pipeline and accelerate the readiness of potential CFOs, CNOs, and COOs. The curriculum is designed to provide a wide variety of opportunities for participants to network, gain necessary experiences, and increase their exposure to other facilities and divisions. Participants are selected based on their ability to potentially fill one these roles successfully.

Barbera has been the Vice President of Operations at Palms West Hospital since September 2021. Before his promotion, he held several other roles at the hospital including, Interim Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, Director of Adult Critical Care Services, Interim Director of Emergency Services and House Supervisor.

“Our community benefits from leaders like Michael,” said Sheila Sanders, Chief Nursing Officer at Palms West Hospital. “He raises the bar for everyone he works with and as a result, our patients receive excellent, quality care.  That’s important to us and to HCA Healthcare, and it’s obviously important to Michael, too. We are grateful for his passion and dedication.”

HCA Healthcare provides a variety of programs designed to help build leaders who embrace their culture and lead the industry.
