The North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners at its January 30, 2019, board meeting named Alex Fernandez the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Broward Health. Alan Goldsmith, previous CFO of Broward Health, has transitioned into the role of Chief Administrative Officer for Broward Health.
 
“I am truly honored to have been selected as the new CFO of Broward Health,” Fernandez said. “I look forward to working with the talented team to ensure the long-term financial viability of the system for our patients, employees and medical staff.”
 
Fernandez’s most recent role with Broward Health was vice president of financial operations, where he managed accounting, payroll, accounts payable, budgeting and financial analysis. Prior to that, Fernandez was the CFO of Broward Health Medical Center and Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital. He also served as the hospital’s interim CEO in 2017. 
 
Before joining Broward Health in 2014, Fernandez spent 12 years with Tenet Healthcare Corporation. He was chief operating officer of Good Samaritan Medical Center, CFO and controller of North Shore Medical Center and held other positions within finance across Tenet’s South Florida hospitals.
 
“Alex’s experience in financial leadership roles makes him the ideal professional to lead Broward Health’s finances,” said Gino Santorio, President/CEO, Broward Health. “His tenure with Broward Health has been marked by key achievements, such as implementing revenue cycle enhancements, short-term cash management strategies and operational efficiencies to increase net revenues. We are confident Alex will continue to find success as our new CFO.”   
 
Fernandez has a Master of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. He also holds bachelor’s degrees in finance and accounting from Florida State University and Florida Atlantic University, respectively. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
