Broward Health Medical Center has been granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Cardiac Electrophysiology and reaccreditation in Echocardiography and is the only hospital in the Southeast region of Florida with IAC accreditation in cardiac electrophysiology.

IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indicator of consistent quality care and a dedication to continuous improvement.

“We are very proud of the Broward Health Medical Center cardiac care team for earning the IAC accreditations for cardiac electrophysiology and echocardiography,” said Heather Havericak, CEO of Broward Health Medical Center. “This achievement underscores our commitment to safety and providing quality comprehensive cardiac care for our community.”

The accreditation for cardiac electrophysiology is in the areas of chronic lead extraction, device implantation, testing and ablation, and left atrial appendage occultation – procedures used to diagnosis and treat heart rhythm disorders. “This recognition by the IAC confirms that Broward Health Medical Center is meeting the high standards for cardiac electrophysiology accreditation,” said Ahmed Osman, M.D., medical director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab. “This assures patients that their cardiac electrophysiology needs will be met at the highest standards of care. We are proud to offer our patients advanced services and ever-expanding cardiac care.”

The three-year term of accreditation by the IAC in Echocardiography is in the areas of adult stress, adult transesophageal and adult transthoracic. Echocardiography is used to assess different areas of the heart and can detect heart disease or signs of serious conditions.

Accreditation by the IAC is achieved when a program undergoes an intensive application and review process and is found to be compliance with the published standards. After a thorough review by a panel of experts, the IAC accreditation process then assesses critical operational and technical components, including representative case studies and their corresponding final reports, of the applicant hospital.
These accreditations demonstrate Broward Health Medical Center’s ongoing commitment to providing quality patient care in cardiac electrophysiology and echocardiography.
