After beginning her career as a respiratory therapist, Wesline Modestil joined the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and has never left. In the two decades since, she has helped care for the sickest newborns as a bedside nurse, discharge coordinator, and now the NICU nurse case manager. It’s the kind of work where meaningful connections are formed with families coping with the most difficult circumstances.
“We continue to receive pictures and updates from families of the kids we’ve cared for,” Wesline said. “Parents remember how we were there for their little ones when they needed us the most. They remember how we made them feel, and that it really mattered.”
Wesline views her advocacy for and commitment to NICU families as much more than just part of the job. “I love what I do. I see it as a purpose.”
