Cedars Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Jolly Varki, M.D., Yolly Roberson, State Representative, Howard Katzman, M.D., and Hernan Carrion, M.D. as its newest board members.

Jolly Varki, M.D. has not only been appointed a new board member, but she was also voted in as President and Chief of Medical Staff for 2007.

State Representative Yolly Roberson is a native of Mirebalais, Haiti. Representative Roberson is currently serving her third term in the Florida House of Representatives and holds the distinction of being the first in many areas. She is the first Haitian American Woman to be elected to the Florida Legislature, the first Registered Nurse from South Florida to serve in the Florida Legislature, the first Florida Legislator to hold a joint degree in Nursing and in Law and, the first Haitian American to serve as a Democratic whip in the Florida Legislature.

Howard Katzman, M.D.,F.A.C.S., has been in practice in Miami since 1971 with The Surgical Group of Miami at Cedars Medical Center and specializes in vascular and general surgery and is board certified. Dr. Katzman holds a position of Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He is a member of the South Florida Society for Vascular Surgery; President of The Florida Vascular Society; Founder and Director of the Vascular Laboratory at Cedars Medical Center and member of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.

Hernan Carrion, M.D., is board certified by the American Urological Society of Florida and was a full-time faculty member of the Urology Department at the University of Miami and at the present time is a clinical associate professor.
