Director of Emergency Medicine at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center Honored as New Medical Director of the Year

Roman Skylar, M.D., Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, was recently honored with the New Medical Director of the Year Award by EmCare, Inc. Dr. Skylar joined the medical staff of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center in April of 2008. This special award recognizes his success in implementing higher standards of care for the patients and staff during his first year at Aventura Hospital’s Emergency Department.

Since Dr. Skylar became Medical Director, he has introduced new protocols that allowed the average wait time at Aventura Hospital’s Emergency Room to be reduced to less than ten minutes each month.

During Dr. Skylar’s first year as Medical Director, Aventura Hospital became a certified Chest Pain Center with PCI, installing a state-of-the-art 64-Slice CT scanner in the Emergency Department and implementing new emergency response measures in conjunction with Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue to provide STENT intervention to heart attack patients within 60 minutes or less. As of November 2009, the average STEMI time for patients is 46 minutes.
