Thomas R. Insel, M.D., director of the National Institute of Mental Health, received the 2008 Margaret Ann Aitcheson Humanitarian Award for his visionary commitment to advancing mental health research during a recent ceremony at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

In presenting the award, Julio Licinio, M.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Miller School, recognized Dr. Insel’s significant contributions to the field of mental health. “Dr. Insel is an inspiration to the field because he raised the bar for mental health research, from symptom control to effective treatments, cures and prevention,” said Dr. Licinio.
