(l-r) Jacqueline Lopez-Devine, vice president of patient services at Hospice of Palm Beach County presents checks to Rosettea Sharpe and Wanda Baker this year’s recipients of the Jimmy Smith Nursing Scholarship from Hospice of Palm Beach County. |
In 2007, Jimmy Smith, a registered nurse at Hospice of Palm Beach County, (HPBC), was named Palm Healthcare Foundation’s Nurse of the Year. To honor this achievement, Hospice of Palm Beach County created a nursing scholarship in his name. This year, HPBC is proud to present Jimmy Smith Nursing Scholarships to Wanda Baker and Rosettea Sharpe, both members of the Hospice of Palm Beach County nursing team. Baker and Sharpe will each receive $1,500 to further their nursing education.
Wanda Baker, who is pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse, (RN), began her career with Hospice of Palm Beach County 22 years ago. In those years she has served patients in the roles of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Rosettea Sharpe, also a West Palm Beach resident, has been with HPBC for three years. Rosettea is grateful for the scholarship to support her efforts in becoming a registered nurse. She believes that it takes a special kind of person to be a Hospice nurse and feels privileged to help those during such a significant time in their lives.
