Seventeen-year-old triathlete, marathoner and high schooler Jacob Goldberg has another title to add to his mantle – South Florida’s Most Powerful Kid – after garnering nearly half of the online votes in the second annual Broward Health Chris Evert Children’s Hospital Powerful Kid Contest. Goldberg, who is legally blind and has Tourette’s Syndrome, was one of three grade-level winners the public voted on, along with Miami Beach fifth-grader Joshua Williams and Weston seventh-grader Alec Halberstadt.In addition to the title of South Florida’s Most Powerful Kid, Goldberg takes home a prize package including: Macbook Air, iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod nano, Beats by Dr. Dre high-performance headphones, a flat panel HD TV, Xbox 360 with KinectTM and a $100 iTunes gift card. The two other finalists received all of the above, except the TV and Xbox 360 bundle.
Despite facing daily obstacles over the past 17 years, Goldberg remains a permanent fixture on Pine Crest School’s Honor Roll and loves to run triathlons and half-marathons. He is also the founder of Together We See, which helps raise money to send blind children to summer camps and has raised more than $45,000 to date.
