Board-certified OB-GYN now on-site 24/7 to provide fast access to care, ensure safety

August 2, 2022 – Jupiter Medical Center has announced that laborists are now available in-house 24/7 at the regional, not-for-profit medical center.

Laborists, also called “OB-GYN hospitalists,” are highly trained physicians who specialize in inpatient care and remain on-site at a hospital around the clock. Their role is to enhance patient outcomes by ensuring physicians are immediately and consistently available to pregnant mothers and their newborns from check-in to delivery. Laborists collaborate with the patient’s primary OB physician to ensure continuity of care and reduce the burden of 24-hour, on-call responsibilities common in many ob-gyn practices.

“Jupiter and the surrounding areas are experiencing tremendous growth,” said Dr. Amit Rastogi, president and chief executive officer of Jupiter Medical Center. “Our new laborist program is another example of how we continue to advance and meet the changing needs of our community. Adding this specialty to our world-class team of obstetricians further demonstrates our hospital-wide commitments to quality, safety, and an exceptional patient experience. We look forward to welcoming even more moms and babies in the coming years.”

“This is an important addition to our suite of services for women and children,” said Dr. Dudley Brown, chief of obstetrics for Jupiter Medical Center. “Research has shown that having a laborist on-site can result in better outcomes for mothers and babies, including reducing C-sections and stillbirths.”

In 2021, Jupiter Medical Center’s Florence A. De George Children’s & Women’s Services Obstetrics Unit delivered more than 1,900 babies and expects that number to increase this year.

“Jupiter Medical Center has been in this community for more than 40 years,” continued Rastogi. “As the only independent, not-for-profit hospital in this area, we are keenly aware of the needs of our neighbors, and we are well-prepared to meet those needs today and in the future.”

Recently Jupiter Medical Center broke ground on the new Surgical Institute at Jupiter Medical Center, which will house 16 state-of-the-art “smart” operating rooms and two hybrid operating rooms. The smart operating rooms have been designed to accommodate a variety of surgeries, while the two hybrid rooms can transition from a minimally invasive surgery to an open procedure. This advancement is also in direct response to the area’s explosive growth.
