Miami Dade College’s Physician Assistant Students Continue to Rack up Successes

A group of Physician Assistant (PA) students hailing from Miami Dade College (MDC) brought home top honors recently in the National Challenge Bowl Competition.

Three second-year MDC students competed in a Jeopardy-style contest against 68 national teams, comprising top-tier PA programs from Yale University and Duke University. Miami Dade College’s team beat out the Ivy League lineup and made it to the final round, clinching fourth place.

While in the nation’s capital, MDC’s team also promoted the PA profession and the College’s program to members of Congress during a visit to Capitol Hill.

First-year PA program student Ivan Baez was nominated as President-elect (president in training, term to start after his graduation in 2014) for the Physician Assistants for Latino Health (PALH) representing Latin physician assistants across the country. This is the first time a PA student from MDC will serve in this capacity.

Zachary Liebman, also a first-year PA student, served as the delegate in charge of voting on national student issues during the AAPA National Conference society meetings.
