This past year, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center introduced several new services and programs, made many technological developments, and received numerous accolades. The following are some highlights of 2016:

The Abbott Absorb Bioresorbable Heart Stent
Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is the first hospital from Miami to Jacksonville to commercially utilize the Abbott Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold in the treatment of coronary artery disease. The innovative device is inserted into a patient’s clogged artery to keep it open and restore blood flow, and then gradually disappears in about three years.

Advanced Epilepsy Program
This new program is designed to help patients suffering from seizures and epilepsy regain control of their lives. In addition to offering diagnostics and electroencephalograms (EEGs), the program is the first of its kind in Palm Beach County to have a dedicated Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) for patients in need of further assessment.

Operating Room Expansion
The hospital is planning a multi-million dollar project to improve the efficiency and technological capabilities of its operating room services. Construction will include the addition of four OR suites, as well as expanding to a 28-bed Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The main goal of the project is to provide more spacious ORs to accommodate orthopedic, spinal and robotic surgeries.

Achievement of All Three America’s Best Cardiac Specialty Awards™
Palm Beach Gardens was the only hospital in the state to earn all three America’s Best Cardiac Specialty Awards™ from Healthgrades®. These include America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery, America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention™ and America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care™.

Mission: Lifeline Achievement Award

Heart Failure & Stroke Quality Achievement Awards
The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association honored Palm Beach Gardens with the Get With The Guidelines®- Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Plus. The awards recognize the hospital’s commitment to meeting nationally recognized, research-based quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure and stroke patients.

National Cardiovascular Data Registry Four-Star Rating
Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is the proud recipient of a four-star rating for its Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICD) and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures by the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR). To demonstrate its commitment to quality improvement, the hospital voluntarily agreed for NCDR to publicly report the data from these to registries, which is evaluated using a four-star rating system.

256-Slice CT Scanner
Planning and construction is currently underway for a new 256-slice CT scanner. The technology allows cardiologists to get an entire 3D image of the heart and look at the arteries and anatomy with excellent detail. It is designed so that physicians can see the earliest signs of heart disease not diagnosed with other testing modalities.
