Throughout the year, the talented physicians and employees at St. Mary’s and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital have provided a higher level of award-winning care with a focus on healing one patient at a time. Level I Trauma Care: Highest Level of Care and 25 Years of Trauma Excellence
St. Mary’s proudly serves as one of the largest providers of trauma care, and this year, the hospital celebrated 25 years of trauma excellence. Thanks to St. Mary’s dedicated trauma surgeons, nurses, EMS personnel and injury prevention team, the hospital continues to focus on trauma systems of care and clinical excellence. This year, St. Mary’s also announced a multi-million dollar trauma expansion project that will include new and expanded trauma facilities and state-of-the-art technology.

Highest Level of Stroke Care Quality Achievement Awards
As a state-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center for nearly a decade, the stroke team at St. Mary’s achieved the milestone of treating 3,200 strokes and performing 2,500 neurological interventions. The hospital also earned the American Heart/Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll-Elite Plus. This distinction is the highest honor a hospital can receive for stroke care and acknowledges the commitment St. Mary’s has made to meeting nationally recognized, research-based measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients.

2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award
For the second consecutive year, St. Mary’s received the 2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ by Healthgrades. The distinction places St. Mary’s within the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care provided to mothers during labor and delivery.
Kids Crown Awards
St. Mary’s and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital received three Kids Crown Awards for “Best ER for Kids,” “Best Pediatric Hospital,” and “Best Place to Deliver Your Baby” in Palm Beach County for the second year in a row. Winners are nominated and chosen annually by the readers of South Florida Parenting Magazine.
Pediatric Unit Expansion
To further enhance patient care services, the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital is expanding its children’s hospital with a new Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit. Currently in construction, the pediatric wing will feature a new Step-down Unit, interactive playroom, family lounge, enlarged procedure room and more spacious private rooms.
Newly Opened Long-Term Oncology Center
This new center at the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital isthe only survivorship follow-up clinic available in the tri-county area for patients who have completed cancer therapy. Led by Dr. Matthew Ramirez, pediatric hematologist/oncologist and childhood cancer survivor, the program is dedicated monitoring patients for potential late effects from cancer therapies and empowering them to be the best survivors they can be.
National Certification in Spine Surgery
St. Mary’s was the first in Palm Beach County to achieve Joint Commission certification for its Spine Surgery Program. The designation underscores St. Mary’s unwavering dedication to pursuing the highest possible quality of care and safety with the goal of superior outcomes.
