Broward Health Medical Center (BHMC) is pleased to announce that it has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for its pediatric residency training program.
The program, which was accredited in 2011 by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), is the first pediatric program in the U.S. to receive accreditation from the ACGME under the Single Accreditation System. The ACGME has entered into an agreement with the AOA and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) to create a single accreditation system for graduate medical education and training in the U.S., part of a move to enable more collaboration between osteopathic and allopathic medicine while proving more residency training programs for graduating medical students.
“With pediatrics being a highly needed specialty, this ACGME accreditation allows us to produce more board certified pediatricians and this has a huge impact for our medical students,” said John E. Delzell, MD, MSPH Vice President and Designated Institutional Officer, who oversees all of Broward Health’s residency programs. “From a recruiting standpoint, we will be able to attract the best students from medical schools across the country.”
