Dr. Ana Kelegama is the facility medical director at Memorial Hospital West, a position that enables her to advance care quality and operational efficiency initiatives. Much of her focus since she joined the Pembroke Pines-based hospital in 2023 has been on improving the patient’s experience, throughput, quality and safety.
“We manage more than 350 patient encounters each day and have been able to reduce grievances by more than 50% in large part by addressing patient and family concerns timely and efficiently,” said Dr. Kelegama, a physician leader in the Memorial Healthcare System since 2015. “Improved communication has been one of the keys to our success.”
Patient flow optimization, care standardization and leadership development have been the hallmarks of Dr. Kelegama’s career, and not just at the hospital level. She also serves on Memorial’s systemwide Ethics Committee.
