Dr. Joanne Delgado-Lebron is a physiatrist and spinal cord injury medicine specialist who is the only fellowship-trained and board-certified physician in Broward County providing specialized care for those living with paralysis.
“In addition to the reduced motor function patients with spinal cord injuries face, there is also spasticity and its impact on bowel and bladder function, respiration, sexuality, fertility and wound healing,” said Dr. Delgado-Lebron, who joined Memorial Healthcare System in 2018. “We’re able to manage those issues and improve a patient’s quality of life with advanced treatments, including the implantation of a pump that delivers medication directly to the spinal fluid.”
Dr. Degado-Lebron is an associate program director in Memorial’s Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency program that began training doctors seven years ago. “One of our residents is now pursuing a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and we have a 100% match rate on fellowships, so it kind of feels like watching your kids have success.”
