Jean Ready, BSN, RN, began volunteering at Holy Cross Health in 2000. This was three years after the Department of Community Outreach was developed and Ready saw the need to create a support group for post-open heart surgery patients. She became the founder and president of the Mended Hearts Chapter at Holy Cross. Additionally, she provided the Department of Community Outreach with administrative and clerical services and continues to offer weekly volunteer services to her outreach family. She is reliable, punctual and precise. As one of the few individuals who knew Sr. Innocent Hughes and worked alongside the Sisters of Mercy, Ready also serves as a historian. She enjoys being active in her church and finds purpose by serving as a Faith Community Nurse.
Ready’s history with Holy Cross dates back to the 1950s when she was hired as a nurse by Sr. Innocent. Her roles included working as a circulating nurse in the operating room and Director of Hospital Education, where she trained medical assistants. After enjoying an early retirement for one year, Sr. Margaret Bosse invited Ready to return on a part-time basis to create a healthy habit program, training thousands of preschool students and their care providers and teachers from 1990-2000. Ready graduated from Providence School of Nursing and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami.
