The Comprehensive AIDS Program of Palm Beach County, Inc. (CAP) has received the South Florida Paths of Public Health Award from the Florida International University Robert Stempel School of Public Health in the category of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
“CAP is being honored for its HIV prevention work over the past 20 years in various venues which have included jails, schools, churches, community centers, methadone clinics, substance abuse treatment centers and “on the street.” As a result, there has been a reduction in reported HIV and AIDS cases over the past several years even though testing efforts have either remained the same or increased in Palm Beach County during the same time, suggesting that prevention efforts are making a difference,” said Dr. Virginia McCoy, Director of Outreach and Public Health Practice and Chair of the Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Florida International University Robert Stempel School of Public Health. The South Florida Paths of Public Health Awards have been established to recognize individuals and organizations in the public health field for their contributions and commitments in promoting and protecting the health of the South Florida community. The awards also serve to raise the communitys awareness and understanding of the contributions made by the members of the public health field. Honorees receive their awards based upon their impact in improving the health of the public.
