Initiated in 1999 by the Case Management Society of America (CMSA), National Case Management Week is October 814. This annual celebration occurs the second full week in October and serves to acknowledge case managers, to educate the public about case management, and to increase awareness about the significant contribution case managers make to quality healthcare for the patient and to improved organization for the healthcare provider and payor.
This year’s theme is “One Purpose, Many Paths,” and is represented by a logo with a colorful crossroad scene and directional road sign featuring four of the primary case manager role functions: Assessment, Education, Planning, and Advocacy. Symbolizing the varied paths caregivers may follow, the design also signifies the common commitment among case and care managers to creating an efficient collaborative process to meet their patients’ healthcare needs.
“The common thread we share in case management is our sincere dedication to and passion for improving the health and wellbeing of each of our clients, patients, or customers,” explains CMSA President, Connie Commander, RN, BS, CCM, CPUR, ABDA. “Focusing upon the individual as the center of any healthcare team, we are dedicated to the mission of empowering individuals with knowledge to be appropriately and fairly treated in a timely manner.
