Coral Gables Hospital is one of only two hospitals in the United States to become a training site for the UroLift® System. This technology is the first permanent implant to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men age 50 or older. The UroLift System treatment lifts or holds the enlarged prostate tissue so that it no longer blocks the urethra.
Dr. Paul Perito, chairman of urology at Coral Gables Hospital, and a renowned expert in men’s health and sexual function, will hold monthly educational sessions for physicians. They will consist of presentations, hands-on training with the device and the opportunity to observe multiple surgical cases.
The UroLift® System, cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2013, is designed to relieve symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate while preserving sexual function. Patients recover from the procedure quickly and return to their normal routines with minimal downtime.
