Dog lover Sue Travis has a passion for bringing her pooch to spread cheer to patients, visitors and staff at Broward Health Imperial Point.
Thirteen years ago, after seeing how much visits with therapy dogs meant to her mother, who had Alzheimer’s, she took her first therapy dog for certification with the Humane Society of Broward County.
“Some days, when she couldn’t remember the names of family members, she could remember the names of those two little dogs,” said Travis.
Today, she visits Broward Health Imperial Point every Wednesday with a golden retriever named Buddy. Her second dog, Ricky, is an education therapy dog who joins Buddy for work with other organizations, including children’s camps.
“I always say visiting the hospital is my therapy. I always leave the hospital smiling,” said Travis. “Focusing on the dogs, patients and staff is a nice mental break and it’s great to do something nice for others.”
