At 86, Norman Parks still looks forward to reporting for duty three days a week as a volunteer at Broward Health Coral Springs. After retiring from Motorola 35 years ago, Parks stayed active as a Community Emergency Response Team volunteer, participated in ride-alongs with the Coral Springs Police Department and helped build the Sawgrass Nature Center. He proudly said his “new vocation” is volunteering.
Parks’ connection to Broward Health began in 2015 when his wife suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital. Observing specialists from multiple departments work seamlessly to care for her left a lasting impression. “I told myself, I want to be part of this,” he said.
Now Parks assists wherever needed, supporting staff and patients across the hospital. He also serves on the volunteer board as president and writes a monthly volunteer newsletter called “Notes from Norm.”
“I have the best job in the hospital,” he said. “Our main objective is helping other people.”
